New single Kaikkeuden korvennus out August 26 2022

It’s time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Jääportit with new music!

The new single “Kaikkeuden korvennus” (“Scorching Universe” in English) will be released on all digital platforms next Friday, August 26, 2022.

The track offers a glimpse of the authentic Jääportit frost-rock sound and is part of an upcoming album.

The musical expression of the project has moved from the dark ambient of the early days to somewhere deeper, fusing elements from many different styles, such as post-rock and progressive electronica, creating chilling cinematic soundscapes that carry you through portals and universes.

For fans of the old Jääportit dungeon synth, the long-awaited “Kauan koskematon” – vinyl reissue and new merch will be out on 5 September 2022. Read more in the post:

    Nightmarish ep (from 2001)

    Odd side-project from the past:

Qmas_qwrj was a minimalistic and experimental electronic music side-project by T. M. Mäkelä. Now, 21 years after its release, the full album is available on YouTube for some reason.

So these strange songs took shape at the end of 1999 as an experiment in a different kind of music, using only very minimalistic electronic lo-fi samples.

The sixth track, “Ulkokuori“, samples a call to Yölinja, a Finnish Sunday-night radio talk show where listeners phoned in to talk about their problems and ask for advice. In December 1999 a woman called and described how her boyfriend beat her whenever he was drunk, and how she had no way out and no one to turn to. The track ends where she has to hang up because he has come home. What happened to her after that is not known.

The Painajaismaista EP was released by the Finnish underground label Act Of The Devil as a small limited edition CD-R on 4 May 2001.
The front cover artwork was created by Tuomo E.

All track titles are in Finnish. Painajaismaista means nightmarish in English and refers to the creation process of the album.

So here it is, as nightmarish as it is.
